The Federal Government has said that it is poised to curb unemployment from the grassroots.
In his keynote address during the flag off the 93,731 jobs in Abia state, the Director General of National Directorate of Employment, NDE, Dr. Silas Ali Agara, said it was this reason that 10 participants were selected per ward.
The Director General NDE, who was represented by the NDE Abia State Coordinator Mrs Tessy Wachuku, disclosed that the program which cuts across the four core programmes of vocational Skills Development, Small Scale Enterprise, Rural Employment Promotion and Special Public Works will train unemployed and unskilled persons in 30 skill sets including digital skills.
He congratulated the participants for making it to the list which was drawn from the online registration.
Furthermore, he said that a good number of participants will be resettled with starter packs at the end of the training, which is taking place across the 36 states in the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
In a brief speech, Mrs Stella Chukwuekezie, an Assistant Director and Head, Rural Employment Promotion encouraged the participants to take their training seriously.
Responding on behalf of the participants, Mr Ekwekwo Wisdom Izuchi thanked the federal Government and NDE for this laudable initiative and gave a firm promise that they will put in their utmost best during the training.
Interacting with our correspondent shortly after the event, the NDE Abia Boss, Mrs Tessy Wachuku appreciated the good work of the Director General of NDE, Mr. Silas Ali Agara in revolutionizing NDE in the area of digitalization.
A total of 1,840 persons will be trained in Abia state
The Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony and the Secretary to the Abia State Government, Prof Kenneth Kalu was represented by Dr Jackson Sunday, the Executive Secretary, Abia State Emergency Management Agency.
Other dignitaries that graced the event were the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Prof Caleb Ajagba (PhD) who was represented by Dr George Chidozie, Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of the State on Special Duties.
The Head of South East Zone, Mr Ben Odo was represented by Mr Godswill Ogbonna.
Also present was the Head of the Federal Information centre, Umuahia, Mrs Ifeyinwa Gloria Abiakam who gave a talk on job creation as a tool for social change and total wellbeing.
