Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, UCCIMA, has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala on her reappointment as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
In a statement signed and issued to newsmen by the UCCIMA Chief Servant, Chief Chidi Nkem Aruoma, stated that the remarkable achievements of the former Minister of Finance, underscores her exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and transformative contributions to global trade in her capacity as the Director General.
UCCIMA believes that the WTO will be very well-served by her continued leadership, and the business community would look forward to continuing to work with her and her team to meet today’s global trade and supply chain challenges.
The release partly read, “Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture proudly joins millions of Nigerians and the global community in celebrating the reappointment of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as Director-General of the World Trade Organization for a second term.
“Okonjo-Iweala has succeeded in introducing bureaucratic mechanisms that increased transparency in public offices”.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala made history in 2021 as the first African and the first woman to lead the WTO. Her first term, marked by exemplary leadership, will conclude on August 31, 2025. The commencement of her second term on September 1, 2025, reflects the confidence of WTO member nations in her ability to navigate the complexities of global trade and strengthen the WTO’s position as the premier facilitator of international commerce.
