Mr. Paul Promise Chibuike, a Student of Biochemistry, College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS) has emerged the best Graduating Student with GP 4.92.
Speaking shortly after he was unveiled as the best Graduating Student, during the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, held at the University Convocation Pavilion, Mr. Chibuike, commended the University for inculcating good morals and academic excellence in them.
Chibuike, who responded on behalf of other Students, also appreciated their parents for being there for them throughout their academic year.
In his address, President Bola Tinubu said his administration recognizes the role quality education plays in enhancing technical skills and manpower, hence the increased in the number of Agricultural Universities in Nigeria.
The President said that the establishment cum progressive increase of these specialized Universities of Agriculture is aimed at enhancing food security and ensure food sufficiency, availability and sustainability in the Country .
President Tinubu who was represented by the Director Federal Ministry of Food and Security, Dr Deola Tayo Lordbanjon tasked on the Agricultural Universities to look inwards those innovatively measures that will assist drive the needed change in the Agricultural sector to enhance food security, diversity the economy and broaden the base for industrialization.
He Commended the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU Prof Maduebibisi Iwe and his Management Staff for impacting quality education and good morals on the graduands and advised the graduands to utilize the knowledge and requisite skills they have attained in life.
In his Speech also, the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, said his administration recognizes the role education, Agriculture, technology and innovation plays in shaping the future and economy of the state and expressed confidence that the knowledge, skills and values the graduands have acquired will serve as a foundation tool to their feature endeavours.
Dr Otti represented by his Deputy Chief Ikechukwu Emetu further extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduands who have worked tirelessly to achieve significant milestones in their academic pursuit and extolled the University for the values and impact to the graduands.
In his Address the Vice Chancellor Of the University, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe said a total number of 5,246 of Bachelor’s, Postgraduates Diploma, Master’s and Doctorate Degree holders were graduated
He added that the University is committed to producing highly rated graduates in Agriculture, Science technology to enhance food security and manpower to drive the socio economy of the State and country at large.
Our Correspondent observed that the Convocation Ceremony which featured award of degrees to the graduands, presentation of gifts to Governor’s representative and the best graduating scholar also had in attendance academia, Traditional Rulers and other notable personalities.
