Abia State Government has warned that persons who default in the Month of November Environmental sanitation exercise would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the state Basic Environmental law.

A release signed and made available to newsmen by Mr.Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, Commissioner for Environment however pointed out that candidates, invigilators and exam officers for the on-going National Examination Council’s (NECO) SSCE External scheduled for Saturday November 30, 2024 are exempted from the exercise.

Furthermore, the release stated that such persons would be expected to show proof with proper identity cards.

The release reminded all market, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises on the usual practice of closing up their premises on the last day of Friday morning (November 29, 2024 between the hours of 7am and 9am) to enable them carry out their own clean-up exercise effectively and efficiently.

The release partly read, “The general public is hereby informed that the Monthly Sanitation Exercise For the Month of November holds on Saturday November 30, 2024 in Abia State between the hours of 7am and 10am.

“Movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand,valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

“The Mayor of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and women organizations in the State are required to monitor and sensitize their people on the important of the exercise and to participate as well.

“The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps,the Nigeria security and Civil Defense Corps are to assemble at their usual places of take off for deployment”.

The release further directs that people are to stay at home, clean up their areas and must work with their nose mask.
