The annual Olokoro -Uvuoma football competition has kicked off in grand style.

The competition comprising of the male and female categories, which kicked off on the 10th day of November, 2024, is being sponsored by an illustrious son of Abia State and the Onwa 1 of Olokoro, Super High Chief Hope Obiakarije.

Speaking during the kickoff ceremony at Sancta Cruz field, Olokoro in Umuahia South L.G.A, of Abia State, the sponsor, Super High Chief Hope Obiakarije, who spoke through his brother, Mr. Paul Obiakarije, said competition was part of his efforts to boost football and sports development across the Olokoro Clan.

He pointed out that the competition would create opportunities for young people who are at risk of anti-social behaviour and youth violence to regularly engage in football, sport, mentoring and personal development opportunities.

He expressed happiness that Olokoro football competition has been focused on ways the young talents can benefit from the game’s ever-increasing popularity.

Furthermore, Super High Chief Obiakarije, reiterated his avowed commitment to Olokoro first agenda.

Meanwhile, in a thrilling showdown at Sancta Cruz field, Itaja FC male football team displayed sheer dominance over Avonkwu FC male team, securing an impressive 2-0 victory.

Also the male football match between Umuntu FC and Amakama FC, witnessed an electrifying performance from both squad, leaving them struggling to keep up on their 0-0 draw.

Other matches played so far, saw Umuoparaozara FC defeat Amuzu FC by two (2) goals to nill (0)

Recall that Super High Chief Hope Obiakarije (Onwa 1) had flagged off the Year 2024 Easter Edition of Onwa Unity cup, for the young male and female villagers in Itaja, comprising of Amaegbu (Umuaroko); Umuolile; Obohia, and Umuokpe, with the aim of uniting and unifying the Itaja people.
