The Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna, has inspected the ongoing intensive flood  control and de-silting work in Amahialamaogudu Autonomous  Community  in Isuikwuato L.G.A. of the state.

Speaking during the inspection exercise, Mr. Ogbonna who was accompanied by some of the Ministry’s officials, also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Alex Otti’s administration to respond   positively to the plight of Abians. 

Mr. Ogbonna said that silting of the  existing ring culvert which was of a small diameter in the community led to the submerging of two high rise buildings, hence the need for the immediate intervention of  2.5 M x1.8M box culvert for effective and sustainable  flood control in the area by the Flood and Erosion Control Department of the  Ministry of Environment. 

The Commissioner stated that the present administration in the state is bent on ensuring total restoration of the  Abia Environment from flood and  Erosion at all cost.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment,  Prof. Ijeoma Iheukwumere described the massive  work being done on the site as very  impressive.

She appreciated the doggedness of the  Engineers and workers, quality of work and materials among others which have ensured the excavation for the flood, discharging flood from the submerged  buildings and land. 

Reacting to the development, the traditional ruler, HRH Eze Nkere Kanu Agha, the Okum 1 of Amahialamaogudu Autonomous Community of Ahaba Imenyi expressed  great  joy and  gratitude over the immediate intervention of the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti to the plight of the people over the deplorable road. 

Eze Kanu on behalf of the community  pledged their unalloyed support to ensure progress and completion of the work. 

The Commissioner also visited the inhabitants of the most affected  buildings.
