The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the killing of three soldiers by unidentified assailants at Umuopara, a boundary town in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state.

In a formal letter of commiseration addressed to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Governor Otti described the attack as “unfortunate and barbaric,” condemning the unwarranted violence against soldiers dedicated to maintaining security in Abia State.“This unwarranted and mindless attack targeted at our gallant soldiers who have remained steadfast in ensuring the security of lives and property in Abia State is highly condemnable,” the Governor stated.

Governor Otti extended his heartfelt condolences to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu, the Commander of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, and the Commanding Officer of 145 Battalion, Umuahia, from which the affected soldiers were drawn. He also conveyed his sympathies to the families of the fallen soldiers and those injured during the attack.Referencing a similar incident on May 30 at Obikabia Junction near Aba, the Governor assured the Nigerian Army and the public that the state government would not relent in its pursuit of justice.

He highlighted previous collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies that led to the apprehension of the masterminds of the earlier attack.“The Abia State Government will not rest until the perpetrators of this dastardly act are apprehended and dealt with accordingly.“My administration is committed to working with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and unmask those responsible,” Governor Otti emphasized.

The Governor prayed for the eternal rest of the slain soldiers and the fortitude for their families to bear the loss. He also pledged to reach out to the families to offer support during their period of mourning.Dr. Alex Otti reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Abia State, while maintaining a strong partnership with the military and other security agencies.
