The Straight Child Foundation, TSCF has disclosed that 68 children with congenital clubfoot enrolled in the month of October, 2024 have commenced treatment across the 17 Clubfoot clinics in the 10 states covered by the Foundation, with over 76 percent of the children below the age of 12 months.
The Project Supervisor of TSCF Mr Bright Amadi, who disclosed this to newsmen in Umuahia, Abia State, said that the organisation maintained an average casting visits of less than 5 per child, before tenotomy.
According to him, over 90 percent of the children enrolled so far received tenotomy in line with global standards as at the end of the month, with about 12 percent and 3 percent of the children on treatment dropping out at the casting and bracing level, respectively.

His words, “Towards the enhancement of clubfoot Surveillance, Early Detection and Referral of cases for treatment, TSCF organized two sessions of Early Detection and Referral Training for community leaders and health workers at the Primary Health Care in Kogi State, with more planned for other states in the coming months of the year.
“Administrative and Clinic Supportive Supervisory Visit were made to Rhema University Teaching Hospital, Aba, Abia State, Specialist Irrua, Teaching Hospital Edo State, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, and Zonal Hospital Okene, Kogi State for hands-on training and assessment of clinic operations.
“Basic and advanced capacity enhancement trainings were also organised for UNN Clinic Nsukka, ESUTH, and Immanuel General Hospital, Eket, Teams to ensure quality treatment outcomes for children enrolled into care at the Centers”.
In another development, the Straight Child Foundation has announced plans to mark its 7th anniversary on November 21, 2024.
In honour of this milestone, according to the release made available to newsmen by the TSCF media unit on behalf of the vision bearer, Dr. Mrs Peace Amaraegbulam, the Foundation, would embark on a collaborative health walk with the Umuahia chapter of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) in Umuahia on the 9th of November, 2024.
The release reiterated the objective of the Foundation to engage the Umuahia community and bring much-needed attention to TSCF’s work, fostering a supportive environment for individuals and families affected by Clubfoot and Cerebral Palsy, CP.
The release partly read, “This event is not only an opportunity to celebrate TSCF’s achievements but also to increase community awareness about our mission; providing treatment to Clubfoot patients and supporting individuals with Cerebral Palsy”.
