As Rotary Club of Umuahia plants trees at the premises of Ndume Otuka Secondary School, Ahiaeke and Federal Government Girls’s College both in Umuahia, Abia State, the Club President, Rotarian Temitope Nnaomah has used the opportunity to preach against deforestation.

She said that before embarking on the project, the Club carried out a NEEDS assessment and observed that only a tree exist in the whole compound of Ndume Otuka Secondary School, Ahiaeke.

She emphasized that the Club strongly believes in environmental protection, and tree planting helps to protect the environment.

In a bid to fulfill the requirements of the Environment’s Rotary area of focus and keep climate change in check, members of the Club armed with seedlings, compost and and implements for ground breaking engaged in the hands-on project drive home the need for everyone to engage in tree planting to safeguard the earth.

Also planting trees in the premises of  Federal Government Girls College, Umuahia, Rotarian Nnaomah, enjoined the School management to protect the trees planted and nurture them to maturity.

She called on the teachers and students to spread the good message of tree planting to protect the environment.

Responding, Mrs Betty Ifeyinwa Ibegbulam, Principal of Ndume Otuka Junior Secondary School, Ahiaeke, Umuahia, appreciated the good deeds of the Club and reiterated that the school earnestly need trees because of flood which is ravaging the school environment.

Also responding, Mrs Idika, of Federal Government Girls College, Umuahia, assured that trees planted in the school environment will be protected.
