Rotary Club of Umuahia Central District 9142 has disclosed its plan to expend N20 million on service projects in the communities within its domain.
In an inaugural address at the Jubilee hall, Mater Dei Catholic cathedral, Umuahia, Abia State shortly after his installation as the 40th President of the Club, Rotarian Paul Chikezie Mba, PHF, Ph.D said that Polio eradication, Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child health among others would be taken into consideration, after the Club might have carried out a NEEDS assessment.

His words, “The Board has proposed projects that cut across the seven areas of focus of Rotary that is estimated to cost a whooping sum of twenty million naira in this Rotary year….
“There is no doubt that this Rotary year is confronted with a myriad of challenges which are predominantly socio-economical, but we must throng on to ensure that we achieve our set goals in touching lives and changing our society for the greater good of all.

“It is our collective responsibility to showcase the magic of Rotary as a service Organization in our community in this Rotary year with emphasis on District goals and emphasis in donating to our various funds, increasing our membership, increase Rotary visibility in our community and impact more Ives in our society”.

He appealed passionately for the support and donation of the guests and friends in order to achieve/realize the target within the Rotary year.

Presenting a valedictory speech, Rotarian Vivian Uju Uwaga, the immediate past President of the Club, who listed out the challenges and successes recorded by the Club under her watch, encouraged her successor to embrace the ideas of his Board of Directors, whom she described as talented and committed team, and empower them to collectively achieve great things for the Club.
Also in his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Emeka Udokporo, encouraged Rotarian Mba to continue to render good and selfless services to humanity.
He described his elevation as the 40th President of Rotary Club of Umuahia Central as well deserved, maintaining that it was an indication of Rotarian Mba’s unalloyed commitment, hard work, integrity, immense contribution and selfless services to the Club and the society.
In a goodwill message, a Rotarian, who is also the President of Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture UCCIMA Chief Chidi Nkem Aruoma, said that the Club made the right choice in choosing Rotarian Mba as its 40th President.

Aruoma, who expressed optimism that the President would lead the Club to some greater heights, prayed God to bless him with wisdom and courage to provide selfless service for the benefit of others.

Earlier in a welcome address, a Past Assistant Governor and the Chairman Installation Committee, Rotarian Onyii Wamah, PHF+5 described Rotary Club of Umuahia Central as the pacesetter digital Club that has what it takes to ensure that it touch lives and change the community.

The event featured flag parade, conferment of awards, launching of service projects, induction of new members and inauguration of the Board of Directors.
