As some countries across the globe celebrates the year 2024 National Back To Church Sunday, the Vicar of Christ Church, Bende and Administrator of Bende Archdeaconry, Anglican Diocese of Umuahia in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Rev’d. Canon Engr. Nelson Amaihe, has harped on the need for every believer of the gospel of Christ to be motivated by the Great Commission and mobilized to reach a lost and dying world.

Celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of September each year, the National Back to Church Sunday movement started 15 years ago.

Amaihe, who interacted with our correspondent through WhatsApp chat, pointed out the recovery of a backslider needs to be undertaken with love and humility, and by someone who is filled with the Holy Spirit.

His words, “Those who truly love and belong to the Lord are in danger of backsliding, but the Lord still loves His people when they fail, fall and backslide; they are still His, and He longs for their return to full fellowship”.

The Anglican priest who espoused and expounded the the roles Ministers of the gospel must play in the recovery of lost souls, made it clear that “when a believer backslides, it is our responsibility as Pastors to care for him and to seek his recovery”.

He disclosed that when a backslider has been restored, the resultant blessing is enormous.

National Back To Church Sunday according to records available, aims to invite communities to attend church. Those who have strayed from regular church attendance or are still looking for a faith community are encouraged to take a leap of faith and attend church on Sept. 15.
