The Straight Child Foundation, TSCF has revealed that 68 children with congenital clubfoot were enrolled and commenced on treatment across the 16 Clubfoot clinics in the 10 states covered by TSCF.
Briefing our correspondent in Umuahia, Abia State on the successes recorded by the Organization in the month of August, 2024, the Project Supervisor of TSCF Mr. Bright Amadi, disclosed that about 69 percent of the children enrolled were below the age of 12 months.
According to him, in efforts to maintain quality in the treatment of clubfoot, the Organization maintained an average casting visits of less than 5 per child, before tenotomy.
He revealed that about 90 percent of the children enrolled so far received tenotomy in line with global standards as at the end of the month, with less than 10 percent of the children on treatment dropping out at the casting and bracing level, respectively.
His words, “Towards the enhancement of Clubfoot Surveillance, Early Detection and Referral of cases for treatment, TSCF organized one session of Early Detection and Referral Training for health workers at the Primary Healthcare level in Anioma L.G.A of Anambra State, and a session of Community Awareness Outreach at Ugba Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, enlightening mothers, Traditional Birth Attendants, Healthcare Providers, and Community Opinion Holders on clubfoot deformity and how to access care for identified cases within their States and beyond”.
Furthermore, he disclosed Supportive Supervisory visits were also carried out to 9 Clubfoot Clinics across 7 partnering states, to ensure the maintenance of quality in service provision.
