As countries across the globe celebrates September 1, Forgiveness Day, the President General of a sociocultural organization known as Igbo Vanguard Group, IVG Engr. Dr. James Nnadozie Uchegbuo has tasked Nigerians to embrace forgiveness as a path to inner peace and emotional freedom.
September 1 National Forgiveness Day is a day dedicated to embrace healing, understanding, and unity by encouraging forgiveness and fostering empathy.
Interacting with our correspondent in Umuahia, Abia State, Engr. Uchegbuo reminded the people of Umunada both home and abroad, the entire people of Ahuwa-Oboro autonomous community Oboro clan in Ikwuano L.G.A, Abians and Nigerians that when we extend forgiveness, it would inspire others to do the same, thereby fostering a culture of understanding, compassion, and healing.
Uchegbuo, who espoused and expounded the concept of forgiveness and reconciliation in community settings, posited that forgiveness is a powerful force capable of liberating individuals from negative emotions and fostering freedom from resentment.
The PG who observed that forgiveness is about promoting empathy and connectedness to create a more compassionate society, further observed that the Day remind people about the transformative power of forgiveness.
He encouraged Nigerians to see forgiveness as a skill that can be developed and refined over time, hence the need to begin with practicing self-compassion and self-forgiveness for the overall good, growth, development and progress of Nigeria.
In 2023, Dr. Debi Silber, a holistic psychologist, a health, mindset and personal development expert, founder and CEO of The PBT (Post Betrayal Transformation) Institute began working together to create National Forgiveness Day. Each year on September 1, Dr. Silber’s vision is shared to help people heal physically, mentally, and emotionally from betrayal.
