Participants who attended the Niger Delta Peace and Security Network, NDPSN meeting organized by the Foundation for Partnership Initiative in Niger Delta, PIND in Umuahia, Abia State capital, has identified betrayal, pride, stubbornness in the youths, hard drugs, and activities of some indisciplined parents as the major challenges to peace and security in the state.
The participants, drawn from different organizations, including religious institutions, security, and various youth movements, also observed that criminally minded scavengers’ access to our streets has posed a serious threat and caused fears in multiple communities.
Speaking during the meeting, which took place in Living Vine Auditorium Owerri Road/Ngwa Street in Umuahia, Rev. Caleb C.Omeh (JP) said cultism and unemployment are the causes of insecurity and the absence of peace in our neighborhood in Abia State.
The participants, who advocated peace and development in the state, recommended that reducing conflict and violence through interventions and positive programs would enhance peace and security in Abia.
The event’s facilitator, Past Joseph Obinna Miracle, who led the participants through the topic of “Mainstreaming Conflict Sensitivity,” reminded them that no progress or achievement takes place in a turbulent environment.
Obinna expounded on the importance of maintaining peace, which is the only way to create a prosperous community.
Therefore, he encouraged the participants to be peacebuilders in their homes, communities, and the state.
Also, during the training session, the coordinator, Rev. Nwachukwu Ekemeziem, enjoined the participants to embrace the concept of peacebuilding and replicate it in every corner of the community, family, and the state in general.
