As the world celebrates the year 2024 International friendship day, a female entrepreneur and motivational speaker, Amb. Mrs Chinwe Ewurum, has tasked Nigerians to take advantage of the power of friendship to promote peace and understanding in the country.
Interacting with our correspondent through WhatsApp, Amb. Ewurum, who observed that the day marks the importance of friends and friendship in life, strongly agreed that friendship makes the world prosperous and peaceful and it is a key source to maintaining social harmony and generate passion for a better world where all are united for a greater good.
Ewurum, who felicitated with Nigerians on the July 30 Friendship Day, harped on the need for the citizens to “celebrate our differences and find unity in our shared humanity”.
According to her, “Despite our cultural differences, friendship has the power to unite us. It allows us to see beyond our differences and find common ground. It enables us to empathize with each other, to understand each other’s perspectives, and to work towards achieving a common goal”.
Ewurum said, “As a business start-up coach for women, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible women from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
“Friendship knows no borders, no languages, and no cultures. It’s a universal language that can be understood and spoken by everyone. And it’s precisely this power of friendship that can promote peace in different cultures around the world.
“In many cultures around the world , friendship is seen as a sacred bond between two people”.
The motivational speaker who espoused and expounded the importance of friendship, also said, “In our Africa continent for example, the concept of ‘ubuntu’ emphasizes the importance of community and friendship in achieving peace and harmony”.
She encouraged Nigerians to use the opportunity created by the year 2024 International Friendship Day, to nurture friendships, reach out to someone regardless of his or her culture and background, listen to their story, encourage them and find a common ground.
The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in the year 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.
