A social innovator and community advocate, Mrs Adanma Odefa, has envisioned a world where there is real friendship between nations, peoples and even planets, as Nigeria joined the rest of the countries across the globe to observe the year 2024 International Friendship Day.

Interacting with our correspondent through WhatsApp in commemoration of the July 30 event, Odefa who affirmed her commitment to friendship, enjoined Nigerians to also make friends even with aliens.

The social innovator who also touched/torched on the theme for the day, “Embracing Diversity, Fostering Unity”, observed that the theme was emphasizing the connection and understanding between people from different backgrounds and also fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation.

Her words, “Friendship is such a multi-colored, multi-dimensional kaleidoscope that I won’t even dream of attempting to define it.

“There are so many kinds of friendships which may or may not be present in varied relationships.

“For example, you could be husband and wife without being friends, you could be siblings and not friends, you could also be lovers without being friends. I think the term for it is – friends with benefit!

“In the midst of these noise, true and lasting friendship still exists. Whereas it might not be the easiest thing to find, but when you do find it, it’s the most beautiful thing you can find”.

According to Mrs Odefa, friendship remained the best and most important relationship one can have with another human, as it transcends religion, language, race, tribe, gender, and everything.

“When genuine friendship exists, it is a catalyst for unimaginable giving and sacrifice. Friendship promotes peace, equality, integration and unity across cultures”, she buttressed further.

To further affirm her commitment to friendship, Mrs Odefa who disclosed plans to expand her boundaries and make friends with new people that she has absolutely nothing in common with, also said, “I just might reach out and mend some of my friendships that have been broken and even obliterated”.

International Friendship Day is celebrated on 30 July to mark the importance of friends and friendship in life. The day also advocates the role that friendship plays in promoting peace in several cultures across the world.
