The Dean of All Saints Nursery/Primary School, Avutu Obowo, Imo state, Rev. Fr. Jude Kingsley Chinonso Madu, has harped on the need to boost educational programmes that develop cultural awareness.
Speaking during the 28th graduation ceremony of the school, Rev. Fr. Madu, maintained that people and culture are inseparable, are they intertwined.
According to him, culture is a way of life of the people and any individual or society without culture exist with no identity.
Speaking also, Mr. Anselam Ogbonna, Abia BIM Information leader and the father of one of the coronated pupils, HRH Master Chigozie David, who also harped on the need to explore the promotion of culture through the teaching of local languages, observed that some of the Igbo cultural aspects are not embedded in the teaching of local languages.
While stressing the importance of carrying children along in the promotion of the Igbo rich cultural heritag, Ogbonna said it is necessary for the southeasterners to ensure that the younger ones, who are the leaders of tomorrow are adequately sensitized and educated to appreciate the relationship between peace, unity and development of the region.
According to him this will go a long way to establish them on a solid foundation that is predicated on the Igbo cultural values to enable them function effectively as future leaders
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Boniface Anuolam appealed to the Federal and State Governments as well as school proprietors, to prioritize the welfare of teachers in their employment in order to boost the educational sector.
He also appealed to the employers of teachers to treat them with respect and reward them properly because there the future lies
Anuolam, who maintained that mission schools remained ideal for raising responsible leaders, buttressed further that mission schools have been at the fore front of raising generation of youths with corrective mindset to impact their society positively.
Presenting the school welcome address earlier on behalf of the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Maria Agbazuruwaka, a Primary Six pupil, Miss Roseline Uwarime Jaja, expressed gratitude that the dreams of the deceased Rev. Fr. Gerald Onuoha of having the school built in a modern way was actualized by Dr. Pascal Nwokocha, who routinely sent in textbooks to boost the school library.
She equally appreciated the Dean of the school and parish priest, Rev. Jude Kingsley Chinonso Madu for his leadership and positive attitude and change he has brought to the school.
The gift and award giving event featured recitations, cultural dance, drama, calisthenics, Miss know all, lightening up of candles, farewell songs and coronations.
