A retired civil servant Mr. Ejike Njoku has listed starvation, laziness and idleness as major causes of gatecrashing in the society.
Speaking with our correspondent in Umuahia, Abia State, Njoku described gate crashing as the easiest way to feed.
He said, “there is starvation in the land. People want a way of surviving, that is why in any occasion whether invited or not invited, you see them en masse, at least to have a square meal a day”.

Speaking further, “just take for instance a burial ceremony, most of the people that graced it did not necessarily come to mourn but to look for something to eat and drink”.
Mr. Njoku said most idle persons find solace in events that they were not invited, pointing out that, “when you have nothing doing, you will be tempted to go to occasions uninvited. Because if you have enough, you can’t go to a place where you were not invited”.
He said, “there should be a reorientation based on individual understanding. If you feel you are in the act of gatecrashing and feel you want to turn a new leaf, it is left for you to take the decision”.
