A sociocultural organization known as Igbo Ekene Global Development Union, IEGDU has backed the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Local Government autonomy and called on the governors not to disobey the judgement.
Speaking during the meeting of the Organization held at Obohia Itaja civic hall, Olokoro in Umuahia South L.G.A, of Abia State, the IEGDU Abia State/Southeast Chairman, Elder Boniface Onwunka, also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the Supreme Court case which freed local government areas from the financial control of governors.
Reacting also on the trending revelation that some school students are being initiated into cultism, Onwunka called on the governments through the State Ministries of Education to increase its supervisory role and not to hesitate to shut down any school where students engage in cult-related activities.
He also encouraged the state governments to continue to ensure that Schools operating in their states to adhere strictly to the minimum standard and quality teaching and learning system, as this according to him will save lives of pupils and students from the rampant cases of building collapse.
Onwunka who appreciated the efforts of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Abia State chapter towards the workers welfare, advised the Union not to hesitate to embark on industrial action if the state government failed to address the issues they have raised.
Furthermore, he urged parents, teachers, religious leaders, and sundry stakeholders not to neglect their duties to their children and wards and guide against child molestation, abuse, defilement, other sexual and gender based violence and child abduction.
Onwunka , who disclosed plans to constitute a committee to review the bylaws of the organization to make it have a vibrant outlook as a viable working document, appreciated the President General of the IEGDU, Amb. Moses Onyegbule for his sterling qualities and excellent performance.
In his speech earlier, the President General of the Organization, Amb. Moses Onyegbule, called for harmony and collaboration among members for the growth, development and financial progress of the Organization.
He maintained that IEGDU leadership is open for/to constructive criticism.
Speaking shortly after she received the ‘Nneji Igbo Global’, award from the Organization, Chief Mrs Faith Nkeiruka Ogbudimkpa, espoused and expounded the essence of Essential Family Practices and the need for parents, particularly mothers to embrace personal and environmental hygiene for the good of their children.
She assured the Organization of her unalloyed support, adding that the award would spur her to more positive thought for the growth and development of the Organization.
