The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has enjoined members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN  to join hands with government in realizing its vision of changing the narrative of the state .

To this end, he has enjoined accountants to see themselves as critical agents for good governance.

Speaking during the investiture of the 11th District Chairman, Mr. Onyemachi Christopher Ikechukwu and inauguration of the executive committee of ICAN held at Chidi Ajaegbu ICAN Resource Centre Mgbarakuma Ubakala in Umuahia South L G.A, the governor identified ICAN as a body known for accountability and hard work to ensure transparency in financial management.

Dr Otti represented by the SSG, Professor Kenneth Kalu urged the new executive of ICAN Umuahia District society to see their emergence as a call to service and work together to achieve success.

In his key note address, the ICAN Diamond Jubilee President, Chief 

D C S Alaribe represented by the Accountant General of the state and member ICAN governing council ,Njum Onyemenam identified Umuahia District as one of the pillars of the institute which according to him, plays critical role in promoting the highest standard of accuracy and integrity.

He commended the past executive for their effort over the years and wished the new executive led by Mr Christopher Ikechukwu a distinguished tenure. 

In his acceptance speech, the District  chairman of Umuahia District society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria Mr. Onyemachi Ikechukwu lauded the members for the opportunity to serve, describing his election as a great privilege and promised that the new executive will not betray the confidence reposed in them.

He pointed out that it is the desire of the new executive to engage in capacity building programs such as train in, workshop and conferences to develop and improve the skills of their members as well as the state workforce and  appealed to government to provide  mobility for the institute for effective operation.

In his valedictory speech, the 10th Chairman of ICAN Umuahia and District Society, Mr Daniel Chjindu Awazie appreciated government for their overwhelming support and also for the free medical screening granted to their members during their international accounting day held in the state.

He used the opportunity to thanked the members for their support while he served and thanked government for harkening to their plea for the rehabilitation of the Mgbarakuma road leading to their Secretariat and appealed that it be completed to stimulate economic activities in the area.

In his welcome address, the Chairman Investiture Committee, Mr. Ogbu Ude Obasi appreciated all that graced the occasion and prayed for Gods blessings.

The event which featured paper presentation by Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, swearing in of new executive of ICAN Umuahia district, presentation of souvenir attracted the presence of the Commissioner for Environment Dr. Philemon Ogbonna; CMD FMC Umuahia  Dr Onyebuchi; Special Advisers/Assistants to the Governor; stakeholders in the financial sector,  traditional rulers among others.
