Eighty six (86) children with congenital clubfoot have been enrolled and commenced on treatment in the month of June 2024 across the 16 Clubfoot clinics in the 10 states covered by The Straight Child Foundation, TSCF.

These clinics located in the 5 states of the South-East; Kogi State in the North-Central, and Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Edo States, in the South-South region of Nigeria are participating in the MiracleFeet/The Straight Child Foundation (TSCF) collaboration, which seeks to promote access to Ponseti care of clubfoot in Nigeria.

The Project Supervisor of The Straight Child Foundation, Mr BrightAmadi, who briefed our correspondent in Umuahia, Abia State capital on successes recorded in the month of June by The Straight Child Foundation, also disclosed that about 74 percent of the children enrolled within the month were below the age of 12 months. 

According to him, in a positive effort to maintain quality in the treatment of clubfoot, the organisation maintained an average casting visits of less than 5 percent before tenotomy per child.

He said that over 80 percent of the  children enrolled so far received tenotomy (in line with global standards) as at the end of the month, with less than 5 percent and 3 percent of the children on treatment dropping out at the casting and bracing level, respectively.

Furthermore, he said that the organization also held a collaborative meeting with Local Government Area Health Authority Secretaries of Primary Health Care Development Agency, across the states of her coverage, and and also the LGA Community Mobilization Officers of the National Orientation Agency on how to improve clubfoot surveillance, early detection and referral.
