Married couples have been advised that giving their partners a welcome back home kiss after a stressful day’s work in the present economic challenges could make them feel appreciated and loved.
Interacting with our correspondent through WhatsApp as some countries across the globe celebrates the year 2024 National Kissing Day, a consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia and the vision bearer of The Straight Child Foundation, TSCF, Dr. Mrs Peace Amaraegbulam, asserted that such a welcome back home kiss, gives them the necessary support they need and minimizes the problems they faced at work.
Amaraegbulam who observed that kissing and embracing symbolizes acceptance, love and giving oneself to the other, also reminded couples that kissing one’s partner, either tenderly or passionately, could release neurotransmitters (calming brain chemicals) that reduce stress levels and soothe the mind.
Her words, “High cortisol levels are linked to depression and a variety of other mental and physical ailments, so when married couples kiss, it can be a great stress buster because it is known to reduce levels of cortisol in the body. Kissing, affection does not only increase oxytocin production but it also reduces secretion of cortisol, the stress hormone”.
From records, June 22 National Kissing Day is believed to have been first created in the United Kingdom during the 1990s. The Day offers more than a history lesson, it encourages people to reconnect and draw closer to their loved ones.
