Chief Alphonsus Udeigbo, the Chairman of Abia State Market Amalgamated Traders Association, ASMATA has said that the growth and development of any government’s economy becomes positive and possible when the traders who are the major players and critical stakeholders are involved.
The ASMATA boss who said during the maiden meeting of the Association in Aba, also said his administration has the mission to serve the traders and to ensure that they speak with one voice.
“We are soliciting for maximum cooperation because Abia state must move forward. You cannot talk about business economy commencement without traders in the market.
That airport is working is market people, Railway is working is market people, transport business is working, it is market people, payment of tax, is market people, building, is market people, government cannot talk about development without the market people.
“ASMATA is also here to protect the interest of traders across all the markets in Abia state. During the May 27th ASMATA donated and text books and other materials to the office of the wife of the governor to help celebrate children day.
“ASMATA of this new face of Abia is for traders and we don’t want anybody to be doing things separately”
To protect the traders in Abia state, Chief Udeigbo said his administration provided forms to be filled by the traders with their passports attached, as well as created a website for ASMATA, “So anywhere you are, you can access information and programs of ASMATA through online. We also created an E-marketing where you can present what you are dealing on”.
Udeigbo said, “This present leadership of ASMATA has a good thought for all the markets, everywhere there is doing business exists in, even those in the streets, plaza inside the market, provided you are a member of ASMATA, who abide by the law, who follow the rules and the regulations of ASMATA.
“ASMATA has its aims and objectives, which include: to see to the welfare and protection of traders, their lives and property; We are here as intermediate between the traders in Abia and government in Abia; We are here to ensure that there is peace and tranquility in all the markets in Abia state.

“When we assumed office we know that ASMATA did not have a constitution but now the new leadership of ASMATA has drafted one and it is in the hand of Commissioner for Trade and Industry”.
Udeigbo who appreciated the government of Dr. Alex Otti for doing well, expressed joy that it has the interest of traders at heart, hence the need for the traders association to also complement its efforts.
