The Abia Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, has said that the present administration under Governor Alex Otti places premium on the environmental cleanliness of the state which according to him has improved significantly since the coming on board of the Labour Party led government.

Speaking while monitoring the de-silting exercise organized by the Ministry to mark this year’s World Environment Day at Isigate and other parts of the state, Mr. Ogbonna who joined in the de-silting exercise disclosed that the Ministry provided adequate pay-loaders to cart away the debris.

Ogbonna, who advised Abians to be conscious of the cleanliness of their surroundings, pointed out that the citizens, residents and visitors Abians must imbibe the culture of voluntary cleaning of their surroundings without being asked to do so.

While insisting that the importance of clean environment cannot be overemphasized, the Environment Commissioner who frowned at the attitude of some people who litter the streets with sachet packs and other materials that ends up blocking the drains, urged such defaulters to desist from such act and make use of designated buckets.

He equally thanked al that participated in the 2024 World Environment Day including stakeholders and urged them to sustain the tempo.
