Centre for Human Rights Advocacy and Wholesome Society (CEHRAWS) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Army and the family of the soldier who tragically lost his life in Aba, Abia State, on Friday, May 17, 2024.
In a release made available to newsmen by Mr. Okoye Chuka Peter, CEHRAWS Executive Director, the body vehemently condemned any attack on security operatives, particularly the incident which resulted in the death of a brave soldier at the Milverton area/Aba Main Park, orchestrated by criminal elements/unknown gunmen.
CEHRAWS also appreciated the swift and decisive intervention by the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who promptly visited the scene and coordinated with security forces to ensure stability.
CEHRAWS also commended the efforts of the Commander of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, for his timely actions which prevented a potential reprisal attack.
” Their restraint and non-kinetic approach were crucial in maintaining peace and order in a highly volatile situation.
“CEHRAWS acknowledges the professionalism demonstrated by the Nigerian Army in handling this tragic event. We urge the citizens of Aba to cooperate fully with the security operatives by providing any useful information that can lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. It is through collective effort and community support that we can ensure justice and prevent future occurrences.
“We pray for the continued application of non-kinetic strategies in addressing security challenges across Nigeria, particularly in the Southeast and Abia State. Such approaches are essential in rebuilding public trust in the government and fostering a realistic and enduring civil-military relationship. We believe that through mutual cooperation and respect, we can achieve a safer and more secure environment for all.
“Once again, our deepest sympathies go out to the Nigerian Army and the bereaved family during this difficult time. May the fallen soldier rest in peace, and may we all work together to prevent such tragedies in the future”, the release further read.
