In its efforts to validate all existing land titles as well as ensuring a more efficient and accurate land administration system in the Abia state, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, Commissioner for Lands and Housing has announced the commencement of a comprehensive recertification exercise for all land title documents in the state
Chaka Chukwumerije, who disclosed this to newsmen in his office in Umuahia, said the corrective regime of Governor Alex Otti is poised to correct all anomalies in the state.
He said that the recertification exercise, which began on May 6, 2024, was designed to update plot holders’ information, upgrade survey records to Universal Traverse Mercator (UTM, standards, verify payment of ground rents, taxes, and other charges.
He listed the key requirements to include; submission of title documents,certificates of Occupancy, letters of assignment, building leases, registered power of attorneys, allocation letters, building plan approvals and payment of a processing fee of ₦50,000,which excludes titles issued after May 29, 2023
The Lands and Housing Commissioner further disclosed that the new system would also revalidate allocation and registration of Abia State Social Identity Number, ABSSIN, recover outstanding statutory dues, ground rents, and expired building leases.
Chukwumerije explained that the exercise is a corrective measure meant to clean up the state’s land records, avoiding overlaps as well as ensuring a seamless land administration process.
Furthermore, he said that the exercise would also afford the Governor Alex Otti’s administration a clean slate on its land administration system, the exercise which he also said would be a continuous one.
