HRM Eze Donatus Aguiyi , the traditional ruler of Ndume Ibeku autonomous community, in Umuahia North L.G.A, of Abia State has expressed concern regarding the evolving desires of Nigerian youths who are carried away by economic hardship and crave for better lives through shortcuts.
Recently, the Nigerian mass media has been floating with reportage about the increase in bad behaviours from teenagers in and out of school, that has transcended into a disturbing increase in all manners of social vices such as: touts within the Nigerian streets which are popularly called “area boys”, increased armed robbery syndicates, teenage prostitution, kidnaping and banditry, internet fraudulence activities, act of terrorism, ritual killing, violence caused by cultism are now common in the Nigerian society.
Speaking when he received in audience, a delegation from the Anglican communion led by the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, The Rt. Rev’d Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, in his Omenuko Aku palace in Ndume, Eze Aguiyi decried that the desire for immediate wealth without putting in the necessary effort has become the order of the day in the lives of many young adults and teenagers in Nigeria.
“Help train our young ones, our youths are on the fast lane, they want to get the best in life without struggling”, the traditional ruler passionately appealed to the Bishop.
Eze Aguiyi who said that he has God-fearing people as members of his cabinet, pointed out that as a catholic and a member of the Knight of St. Mulumba, KSM he does not segregate among the religious institution but has established cordiality among them.
He further encouraged the church to pray and support the government of Governor Alex Otti and to also criticize his administration constructively when the need arises.
He wished the Anglican Diocese of Umuahia, a wonderful and peaceful deliberation in their synod.
Earlier in his speech, The Rt. Rev’d Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, notified the traditional ruler of the ongoing synod within his jurisdiction and called for support, prayers, attendance and maximum security while the synod lasted.
He informed the traditional ruler of the theme of the synod – Sitting at the feet of Jesus, the right choice (for the main synod); and Troubled about many things (for junior synod), which was respectively drawn from the Bible book of Luke chapter 10 verses 38 to 42.
Bishop Ibeabuchi expressed confidence that the young people, after the junior synod would be more refined while the erring ones would turn a new leaf and live a life that would be acceptable to the society.
