The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Ngozi Blessing Felix, has enjoined the Abia State Gender Based Violence, GBV Response Team/Technical Working Group to continue to work assiduously in ensuring a society free from GBV and inclusive for all.
Speaking during the monthly meeting of Abia State GBV Response Team held at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Umuahia, Mrs Felix reminded the team that the success of the fight against GBV depends on their commitment and efforts.
“We are key actors in the gender space with a common goal to fight GBV in the state. Let all hands be on deck in this fight, as you can see, the State has started training GBV stakeholders as witnessed last week. Some have received training on various aspect of managing GBV scourge in the state, more training of members will soon be brought on board”, the Commissioner assured.
Mrs Felix further reminded the team that the voices of the victims of GBV would be heard with their timely intervention when such matter arises.
She pointed out that the monthly meeting was geared towards reviewing performance rate to GBV activities and incidence response in the State and also to review terms of reference assigned to the committee and to chart modalities and strategies for effective fight against GBV in the state.
The GBV Response Team had during the meeting, shared their experiences, best practices as it affects handling the case of GBV, challenges, observations and way forward in the course of rendering services to victims and survivors of SGBV.
