The Executive Director of Vivacious Development Initiative, VIDI Amb. Onyinyechi Joy Nwosu, has emphasized the importance of religious organizations in addressing sexual assault, child abuse and other social issues in their teachings.
Speaking at Living El-Shaddai Glorious Church in Umuokuala, Aba, Abia State on Sunday, to raise awareness on these social issues, Amb. Nwosu, who is also the Coordinator of the Abia State chapter of the Child Protection Network, CPN further highlighted the need for religious leaders to speak up for the rights of all individuals, regardless of age, gender, background, or status.
Amb. Nwosu made it clear that the month of April is dedicated to spreading awareness about sexual assault and child abuse worldwide, and the visit to Living El-Shaddai Glorious Church in Umuokuala, Aba, was part of ongoing campaigns for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM).
Amb. Nwosu who spoke about different forms of child abuse, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect, explaining their profound impact on individuals and society, ponted out that Vivacious Development Initiative is a non-partisan and non-religious nonprofit organization committed to advancing the rights of women, girls, and children; and has been actively engaged in combating child abuse and sexual and gender-based violence and also, advocating for a safer and more equitable society.
According to her, VIDI would continue on its efforts to empower communities and protect vulnerable populations from abuse and violence.
She went further to define sexual assault as any unwanted sexual activity or contact that occurs without explicit consent, affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
The pastor of Living El-Shaddai Glorious Church, Chuks Ihedigbo, expressed appreciation on behalf of the church and showed interest in further enlightenment on issues related to child abuse.

The session was aimed to educate parents and church members on the dangers of sexual assault; and on recognizing signs and symptoms of child abuse and understanding appropriate actions to take when abuse is suspected.
