Christians have been enjoined to wake up from spiritual slumber and be alive to their responsibilities in order to bring inactivity and spectatorship to an end in the house of God.
Chief Ginger Onwusibe, the member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal constituency gave the task as a keynote speaker at Ebenezer Methodist Church, Ogbodiukwu, Umuopara circuit, Diocese of Umuahia East, Abia State during the plenary session of the 14th Diocesan synod with the theme, “Arise and Build”.

He said, to undertake the sacred task of building the church of God, which he described as the body of believers, christians should first work on their children in their respective homes, as the family, which is a social cell and the first unit of the society should be built in faith and in the doctrines of Jesus Christ.
The Federal lawmaker described the theme of the synod which was drawn from the Bible book of Nehemiah chapter 2 verse 18 as apt and relevant in this age, when spiritual lukewarmness, quest for earthly glory and materialism have towered above “Our devotion, dedication and commitment to christian virtues which are the hallmarks of a believer”.
“Building ourselves and our children in faith is fundamental and foremost but not complete standing alone…. After building up the believers spiritually, we must build them up physically and also empower them. Empower people in church to give meaning and life to the faith we have inculcated in them. When people are not gainfully employed, they may constitute profanity and certainly increase Pastor’s prayer points”.
Onwusibe, who appreciated the strides recorded by Gov. Alex Otti’s administration within the shortest period, charged the Synod to always pray for the governor and the nation’s President to take decisions directed by God.
In his remarks also, the Abia State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Chief Chimezie Ukaegbu maintained that the way out of the reproach which is striving to envelope Nigeria, is for the citizens to embrace the “Arise and Build” call of the biblical Nehemiah.
Presenting his address, the Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Chukwukadibia Onoh, called on government at all levels to rise against the negative tide which include: food insecurity, bastardization of Naira among other ills bedeviling the country and proffer solution to them.
The Bishop who however envisioned a better tomorrow, called on the Church to continue to pray for the authorities and the government.
Earlier in his address, the Lay President, Hon. Barr. Jerry Uzosike, encouraged the Synod and Nigerians to anchor their hope on God, who is capable to turn things around for good.
The Lay President who also enjoined the delegates to develop the mind and spirit of giving and sacrifice, tasked them to stop sitting on the fence but to join hands with the Bishop to move the Diocese to a better pedestal.
He also charged the delegates to see the synod as an avenue to take the right decision and to begin on a clean slate to rebuild Umuahia West diocese as Nehemiah did for his people and the Lord, in his generation.
