The Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba, KSM/LSM of Loretto Sub council, Saturday, celebrated the 25th year (silver jubilee) of the Sub council.
Derived its name from Loretto Chapel (Chapel of Our Lady of Light), a former Roman Catholic church in Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States, now used as a meseum and a wedding chapel, the charter that established Loretto Sub council was granted on the 3rd day of October 1998, and handed over to Sir Michael Ogba (KSM) with 65 members.
Presenting an address during the event which took place at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ugwunchara, Umuahia, Abia State, the Grand Knight Loretto Sub council, Dr. Bernard Nwogu (KSM) lamented that achievements made by the past leaderships of the Sub council have been badly affected as a result of the economic downturn and majorly, the relocation of Umuahia main market from its location at Isi-gate axis to Ubani Ibeku, which according to him, affected also the fortunes of members.
He also pointed out that the splitting of Loretto Sub council with the emergence of Christ the king sub council, CKS and resultant sharing of assets without sharing liabilities relating to debts owed to Owerri Metro and Supreme Councils among others, also affected the Sub council.
Nwogu, who asserted that the setbacks are not insurmountable, as his led administration is working tirelessly to address the problem associated with them, also pleaded with the Metro and Supreme Councils to properly address the issue of liabilities affecting CKS and Loretto Sub councils.
“We shall at today’s event, honour our deserving brothers and sisters who have contributed immensely to the upliftment of the Sub council in diverse ways including our fallen members with certificates of honour and prosy humus. While doing the selection, we strictly considered those who rendered significant services to Loretto Sub council”.
In their respective speeches, the Royal father of the day, HRH Eze Sir Victor Amadi and Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Nze Chimaobi, enjoined the knights and ladies to strive to have a foundation of growth, where their children and friends would be attracted to their sterling qualities and lifestyles and aspire to join the pius society.
Interacting with our correspondent, the Coordinating President LSM Umuahia, Lady Onyedikachi Madu, encouraged the knights and ladies to not allow the present economic challenges weigh them down but to strive and live up to the expectations of the pius society, as they are required to use their time, talent and treasure to work for God and humanity.
Earlier while celebrating the holy mass, the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Leonard Ehiemere enjoined the KSM/LSM to be instrument of peace and eucharist.
“Today’s world is filled with hatred and bickering but where there is peace, there is good relationship, there is unhindered flow of information and miracle is not lost”, Rev. Ehiemere reminded them.
