Participants who attended the Niger Delta Peace and Security Network, NDPSN Meeting organized by Foundation for Partnership Initiative in Niger Delta, PIND in Umuahia, Abia State capital, have identified drug abuse, betrayal, poor parental upbringing, hard drugs ingestion and activities of some corrupt officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, who promotes dishonesty and injustice as the major challenges to peace and security in the state.

The participants who were drawn from different organizations including the the religious institution, also observed that the access of the criminally-minded scavengers to the nooks and crannies of the neighbourhood has posed a serious threat and enthroned fears in the various communities.

Speaking during the meeting which took place in VINE ASSEMBLY auditorium, Nkata-Ibeku in Umuahia, Pastor Ubani Michael, among other participants also identified cultism, land dispute and unemployment as part of the challenges to peace and security.

The participants who advocated peace and development in the state, recommended that the reduction of conflict and violence through interventions and positive programmes would enhance peace and security in Abia.

The facilitator Rev. Nwachukwu Ekemeziem, who took the participants through the topic, “MAINSTREAMING CONFLICT SENSITIVITY”, reminded them that no progress or achievement takes place in a turbulent environment.

Ekemeziem, who also expounded the importance of peace building, maintained that it is the only way to create a prosperous community.

He therefore encouraged the participants to be peace builders in their homes, communities and the state generally. 

Also during the training session, one of the resource persons, Madam Delphine Chioma, enjoined the participants to embrace the concept of peace building and replicate same on every corner of the community, family, and the state in general. 

Pastor Obinna Joseph, anchored the discussion on Challenges to peace and security during the meeting which has the theme, “Promoting coordination among organizations in the Niger Delta working on peace, security and development”.
