In a thrilling showdown at Umutowe Community Primary School field, Olokoro clan in Umuahia South L.G.A, of Abia State, Itaja Amaegbu (Umuaroko) female football team, displayed sheer dominance over Itaja Obohia female team, securing an impressive 2-0 victory to win the Onwa Unity Cup competition.
Also the male football match between Itaja Obohia and Itaja-Amaegbu, witnessed an electrifying performance from both squad, leaving them struggling to keep up on their 1-1 draw before entering the penalty kicks, which saw the former defeating the latter with 4-3 margin.
Recall that a philanthropist and a traditional Chief in Umutowe Autonomous Community, Olokoro clan, High Chief Hope Obiakarije (Onwa 1) flagged off the Year 2024 Easter Edition of Onwa Unity cup, for the young male and female villagers in Itaja, comprising of Amaegbu (Umuaroko); Umuolile; Obohia, and Umuokpe, with the aim of uniting and unifying the Itaja people.
Speaking during the finals, the immediate past deputy chairman of Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Eze Godfrey Onwuka, described the competition as very impressive.
Eze Onwuka, who is the traditional ruler of Umutowe Autonomous Community, said he was also impressed with the way and manner the football competition was organized and the spirit of sportsmanship showed by all the teams, adding, “Even the standard was high, considering the level of the competition”.
“I saw the future players of Enyimba Football Club in this field today. I saw the future players of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. I also saw Chelsea and Madrid players”, the Royal father said as he handed over the trophy to Itaja Obohia male football team.
He appreciated the sponsor of the competition, High Chief Obiakarije for also promising to sponsor Olokoro Competition come December, 2024.
Handing over the trophy to Itaja-Amaegbu female football team also, Ugoeze Ifeyinwa Onwuka, wife of the traditional ruler expressed happiness the way the female folk are closely following the men in the present society.
Ugoeze Onwuka, who also congratulated both the winner and all the ladies that participated in the competition, also thanked the sponsor for such a gesture.

Also in a brief speech, the President General of Olokoro Clan Development Union, OCDU Mazi DEA Nzenwa congratulated High Chief Onwa for the noble act.
Earlier in his speech the sponsor of the competition, Chief Hope Obiakarije, who was represented by his brother, Mr. Paul Obiakarije, reiterated his avowed commitment to Olokoro first agenda.
He also said that the Unity Cup competition was one of the ways of promoting peaceful coexistence in the community.
