In response to the alarming rise in childhood hunger rates across the globe and to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship in Nigeria, a charity organization known as Harrison Goodness Foundation, HGF on Easter Monday, fed about one hundred Otampa children with sumptuous and nutritious meal.

Speaking in Amaogudu hall in Otampa autonomous community, Isuikwuato L.G.A, of Abia State, the HGF Nigeria Coordinator, Mr. Nelson Aghogu, who appreciated the Secretary General of the Foundation, Dr. Mrs Gloria Harrison for the initiative, identified nutritious meals as a means by which a child’s cognitive function can be enhanced.
He said that the Foundation observed that children who lack access to adequate nutrition, face numerous challenges in their cognitive and physical development, and which also impact negatively in their academic performance.
Aghogu pointed out that HGF do not only strive to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families in need, but believe strongly that no child should ever have to go to bed hungry and is dedicated also to creating a society where every child has access to nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive, which the Foundation has been doing through its scholarship scheme over the years.
He described the programme as one with a long term effect, in terms of uniting and unifying Otampa children.
Interacting with our correspondent, the treasurer of Otampa Development Union, ODU Home branch and former President General of Amaogudu Development Association, Deacon Jaja Silas Elechi, described the programme as first of its kind in the history of the community.
He expressed joy that the disunity that had rocked the Otampa for the past nine (9) years, has been broken, as all the kindred were represented.
Appreciating the Foundation also, an elated Mrs Chinaza Nwaji from Echiele-Otampa, prayed God to sustain the vision bearers of Harrison Goodness Foundation in their commendable and selfless efforts to serve humanity.
She further observed that the Foundation was committed to helping the needy in the society by complementing the Abia State government’s efforts to curb hunger in the communities.
Also, some of the beneficiaries who include: a 14 year old Master Kelechi Ikechukwu, from Amuta-Otampa; Miss Ejuruaka Glory, 9 years, from Echiele-Otampa; Chinecherem Destiny, 11 years from Akoba-Otampa; Ezekiel Chimeremeze, 13 years from Ikpa-Otampa; Emeka Echefulachi, 7 years fromEchiele-Otampa and a resident, Master Uzoma Victor, 13 years from Eluama, Lokpaukwu in Umunneochi L.G.A, of Abia State, lauded the Foundation for assisting to curtail the effect of malnutrition on children, and called on other individuals and organizations to emulate the HGF.
The programme which featured a career talk by Mr. Onyekachi Ogwo, the HGF Nigeria Director of Scholarship, also witnessed the distribution of gift items to the children.
