The Abia State Patron of Mediterranean Foundation For The Survival Of African Migrants, a Nongovernmental Organization, King Ben Oriaku has called for enhanced support for women in the agro-value chain and the celebration of women’s achievements in the social, economic, cultural, and political fields as the world observed the year 2024 International Women’s Day.
Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day, IWD is a global day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Interacting with our correspondent in his palace, King Oriaku, who is also the traditional ruler of Umudikeukwu autonomous community, Oboro clan in Ikwuano L.G.A, of Abia State, also enjoined the stakeholders to join in the call for positive change advancing women and the promotion of gender equality.

While pointing out that the roles of the women folk in the economic and social wellbeing of Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, the Royal father harped on the need to expose willing and interested women to the latest agricultural technologies across the value chain, market channels, first hand information on more effective production methods, practical record keeping and its essence as a tool to measure profits or losses, and also created an opportunity for knowledge sharing on Agricultural Best Practices, especially as the farming season sets in.
He further expressed optimism that food security, which is physical, social and economic access to nutritious food at all times, would invariably contribute to the reduction of financial vulnerability for women.
King Oriaku who espoused and expounded the various works done by Mediterranean Foundation For The Survival Of African Migrants,i ponted out that the Foundation has been reaching out to various Communities through the traditional rulers and other institutions and engaging meaningfully the youths including girls in order to reduce the ambition of illegal migration, slavery, human trafficking and prostitution.
He disclosed that the Foundation in Abia State has engaged tens of female in various skills acquisition trainings, to help promote entrepreneurship and to wage war against illegal migration, prostitution and human trafficking.
