Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, UCCIMA has stated that the newly inaugurated Geometric Power Plant, Aba, serves as a booster to key investment initiatives aimed at improving economic growth and job creation in Abia State.

UCCIMA observed that unsteady power supply had pushed customers of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises operators to losing confidence in their services which resulted in them shopping elsewhere.

In a release made available to our correspondent through WhatsApp, the President of UCCIMA, Chief Chidi Nkem Aruoma, also observed that interruptions or fluctuations in the electricity supply in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State, has disrupted production schedules, damaged equipment, and also had resulted in financial losses for businesses.

UCCIMA boss, who appreciated Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for sending the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima to inaugurate the Geometric Power Plant, pointed out that a stable electricity supply ensures uninterrupted production, maintains supply chains, and supports industrial growth.

According to him, electricity supply whether to large corporations or SMEs is a very critical factor for ensuring performance and access to a reliable power supply is widely considered as vital to the operations of most small and medium-scale businesses.

Aruoma further appreciated Gov. Otti government’s efforts to reposition Abia’s economy, using several strategic programmes, which have positive impact on the economic growth and job creation, access to capital, improved business environment, and poverty reduction in Abia State.

Aruoma lauded the former Governors of Abia State, who in one way or the other intervened while in office, as the state governor that made it possible for the establishment of the GPP.

UCCIMA also commended Prof. Barth Nnaji, who was a two time minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the commissioning of Geometric Power Plant, the first of its kind in Nigeria at Aba, and expressed happiness that the former Minister of Power has succeeded, in spite of the daunting challenges he encountered in the course of pulling the project through.

The UCCIMA Chief servant who further appreciated the newly inaugurated project, solicited that such be extended to Umuahia which also houses many small and medium businesses including the Golden Guinea breweries among other viable ones.
