To preserve mother tongue from going into oblivion, the Representative for Ikeduru State Constituency 2019- 2023 and Labour Party Standard Bearer for Mbaike (Mbaitoli-Ikeduru) Federal Constituency in last year’s election, Rt. Hon. Uche Ogbuagu, has made a case for Igbo Language competitions and seminars to be held periodically in  schools in the Southeast region.

Speaking at Eze Imo Cultural Complex Owerri, Imo State during an event organized by Igbo Women Assembly in commemoration of the year 2024 United Nations Mother Tongue Day celebration, Ogbuagu who was represented by Comrade Tony Osuji, assured the body that he would not rest on his oars or lower his standard of supporting the upliftment of Igbo language.

Earlier in their respective speeches, the Founder of Igbo Women Assembly, Hon. Mrs.Maria Okwor and Lolo Nneka Chimezie, the National President of the Women Assembly, poured encomiums on Rt. Hon. Uche Ogbuagu for being a shinning light in preventing the Igbo language from extinction.

According to the Organisers, Ogbuagu has paid his dues and has been a major boost to keeping the Igbo language alive, through his audio- video productions and as well his Media houses, which have contributed a lot in this regard.

The event which attracted members of the academia from various spheres of life, saw the former lawmaker popularly known as Ogbuagu Mbaike scooped an award for being a Champion in his support and personal efforts in uplifting and encouraging the sustenance of Igbo language.
