Initiative for Grassroots Interventions and Development in Education (IGIDE), a Nongovernmental Organization has decried the condition of the abandoned premises of the moribund School of Craft and Domestic Centre located at Azikiwe Road by East, Aba, Abia State.

In a release made available to our correspondent by Mrs Eunice Egbuna, the Executive Director of IGIDE, the Organization passionately pleaded with the State Government to partner with IGIDE to put the abandoned school structure into use by refurbishing it, to make it look like a real learning environment.

Mrs Eunice Egbuna.

Mrs Egbuna who is also the Coordinator Abia CSACEFA and also Abia Retired Teachers, ART-FORUM State Coordinator recalled that IGIDE attracted the Federal government presence to the school and also attracted a functional solar Borehole which was sunk there.

She pointed that the change of administration has led to non completion of modern toilet facilities and special structure all with the intention of training and educating out of school children in Abia State.

Egbuna, had while calling on the State government to own the project in their school environment, lamented that the school was abandoned, without pupils in the domestic and craft centres except few teachers who were there, teaching no one.

“The classrooms are hired out to furniture makers to park their material and to others for other businesses.

“We have been informed recently that some bad boys have converted the compound to their hideouts where they sell drugs, sexually harass women among other ills. Our fear is that they may make away with the borehole Sumo, if nothing is done to secure the place”.

Furthermore, Egbuna said if the government would carry out an immediate intervention in the School, that the IGIDE, in collaboration with the Abia Retired Teachers, will volunteer their skills to gather the Out of School Children ( OOSC) and help to educate them for the good of the society and to assist the indigent.
