The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has urged Abians to take advantage of the revamped digitalized Central Motor Registry (CMR) by enrolling their vehicles, including motorcycles and tricycles.
The revamped digitalized Central Motor Registry (CMR) The CMR is imbibed with features like combating vehicle-related offenses among others.
In a press release signed by ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, Police Public Relations Officer and made available to newsmen, the Commissioner of Police stated that registration of vehicles is now compulsory for every vehicle owner.
According to the press release, the directive was to enhance the security and safety of the society at large.
The release read, “Abia State Police Command is delighted to inform the public about the revamped digitalized Central Motor Registry (CMR) The CMR features combating vehicle-related offenses such as car theft, car snatching, hit-and-run incidents, and kidnapping often associated with unregistered vehicles.
“Under this policy, a diverse range of vehicles, including SUVs, saloon cars, trucks, buses, tricycles, and motorcycles, will be covered”.
The release listed out the benefits of the Digitalization Initiative to include:
* National Security – Accurate vehicular information contributes significantly to national security, enabling prompt tracking and addressing of vehicles associated with criminal activities;
* Efficient Law Enforcement – The police will be better equipped to enforce motor vehicle-related laws, leading to safer roads, and benefits for all road users;
* Crime Deterrence – The comprehensive motor vehicle database acts as a deterrent to potential criminals, discouraging them from using vehicles for illegal activities;
* Enhanced Security – A digitalized CMR instills trust in citizens regarding the security of their vehicles. Real-time vehicle information aids in preventing and swiftly resolving vehicular crimes, ensuring the safety of citizens’ assets.
* Expedited Investigations – In accidents or disputes involving motor vehicles, the digitalized CMR expedites investigations, ensuring quick resolutions and reducing inconvenience for citizens.
