As the February 14, Valentine’s day draw closer, Secondary school students especially the girls have been enjoined to reject every form of enticement from the opposite sex in the name of Valentine or Lovers day.
Valentine’s day is known for merry making and expression of love which is mostly at the recent time, associated with increase sexual activities.
The member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Mr. Mathias Ume, who gave the charge at Amuzukwu Girls Secondary School, Umuahia, during the sensitization of students on Valentine celebration, by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Abia State chapter in conjunction with House of Assembly Committee on Education, warned that the celebration of Valentine’s day should exhibit Godly love and not to practice different kinds of immorality, as seen in the present society.
The lawmaker who is also the Vice Chairman, House Committee on Education, who also narrated the history of St Valentine, charged the young girls to aim to achieve greater heights in life.
Speaking also, the Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Abia State chapter, Comrade Josephine Ogwo, disclosed that the sensitization is borne out the passion the Association has to impact positively on the young girls and stop them from being exploited.
Contributing, The former NAWOJ Vice Chairperson, South East Zone, Comrade Nkasi Akoma and the State NAWOJ Vice Chairperson, Nora Okafor, challenged the young girls not to let them down by abstaining from immoral lifestyle that can ruin their future, but be focused with their studies.
In her remarks, the first Abia NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs Nwaka Amauwa, regretted that young girls mess up because they are not well informed and expressed hope that the students will stand out and become what God destined them to be in life.
In their responses, the Principal, Amuzukwu Girls Secondary School, Mrs Emilia Kalu and Mrs Nneka Ibekwe appreciated the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Mr Ume, and Abia NAWOJ for coming to educate the children on the dangers of engaging in immorality during the Valentine.
The event featured presentation of writing materials to the students.
