In a proactive move towards ensuring transparency and accountability in public projects, the Centre for Human Rights Advocacy and Wholesome Society (CEHRAWS) has formally submitted a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the Abia State NEWMAP Project Coordinator regarding the NGWA Road reconstruction project in Aba South, Abia State.

CEHRAWS, a pro-democracy and civil rights advocacy organization and a pioneer member of Abia Civil Society Network (ACSON), is dedicated to upholding the principles of good governance, the rule of law, and safeguarding the universal human rights of Nigerians, with a focus on Abians.

In the FOI request, according to a release signed and made available to newsmen by the Executive Director, Okoye, Chuka Peter, CEHRAWS is seeking comprehensive information on various aspects of the NGWA Road project

These according to the body include: Procurement Details; Overview of the procurement process; Details of the bidding processes; Copy of the contract document and formal agreement with Hartland Construction Company.

For Project Funding: Total cost of the project; Specifics of funds disburse to Hartland Construction Company by NEWMAP.

For Project Status: Up-to-date status report on the NGWA Road; Reconstruction Project and Information on the progress made thus far.

Additional Documents include: Any pertinent documents, environmental analysis, reports, or information related to the NGWA Road reconstruction project.

According to the body, this FOI request aligns with the provisions of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, 2011, and the Public Procurement Act, 2007, both of which have been duly domesticated in Abia State.

CEHRAWS anticipated a prompt response within the legally prescribed timeframe, as stipulated by the FOI If that part of the request cannot be fulfilled, a written explanation for the denial is kindly requested, as required by the FOI Act.
