A Six (6) room self contained Corps Members’ lodge constructed for Catholic Corps Members, in Aba, was on Friday, officially opened and handed over to the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC by the Catholic Bishop of Aba, Most Rev. Austin Echema.
The edifice which was constructed through collaboration between Rev. Fr. Casmire Uzosike, of the Catholic Diocese of Aba, and contributions from some Catholic faithfuls, prominent among them, Sir Cyril Kanu (KSJ), a parishioner at St Ambrose Catholic Parish Ogbor Hill Aba where the lodge is located.
Speaking shortly before the official handover, the benefactors said that the six room self contained family house/Corps Members’ lodge constructed for Catholic Corps Members, in Aba and gifted to the NYSC was to ameliorate the challenges of accommodation faced by Corps Members, during the service year.
In her speech during the inauguration ceremony of the lodge, the State Coordinator NYSC Abia, Mrs Ufuoma Dick-Iruenabere, thanked the Bishop and members of the Catholic Community in Aba, for their effort towards ameliorating the accommodation problem faced by corps members and appealed to good spirited individuals, corporate, religious bodies and government organisations to emulate the gesture.
Mrs Dick-Iruenabere who was represented by the Assistant Director Deployment and Relocation, Mrs Helen Anyaeze, noted that good accomodation and other welfare packages given to corps members, have a way of motivating them to put in their best during the service year.
According to a release made available to newsmen by Mr. Omaka Nnachi, PRO NYSC Abia, each room of the self contained Corpers’ lodge, has wardrobe, en- suite toilet and bathroom and an iron gated lobby. Other facilities and conveniences in the edifice include, One general parlour, a big modern kitchen, borehole and a fenced compound with a volleyball court.
The Assistant Director Community Development Service, Mr David Okoye, the Aba Zonal Inspector, Mrs Mary Opara, the Aba North Local Government Inspector, Mr Chinedu Ubagu, some Catholic faithfuls and some Corps Members were present during the event.
