Muslim faithful have been urged to continue to pray for peace, progress and development of the country, as they celebrate the year 2023 Eid-el-Kabir.

Answering questions from newsmen shortly after the prayers at Umuahia township stadium, Abia State, the Chief Imam of Umuahia Central mosque, Mallam Aminu Lawal also tasked Muslims to embrace the Eid message and reinforce their trust to pray for unity, prosperity and stability of the country.

Mallam Lawal who refreshed the memory of the people on the incident that played out between God, Abraham and Isaac, pointed out that God provided a ram that was used to replace his son, saying, “we are doing this to understand the value of sacrifice as well as to be able to love one another”.

Speaking also, the Chairman Northern Traditional Council, South-south and Southeast, Sarki Yaro Danladi urged Nigerians to rise above ethnic sentiments and work together towards addressing challenges facing the country.

Sarki Danladi, who is also the leader of Northern Community in Abia State, who also stressed the need for Nigerians to show more love, respect for others, patriotism and fervent prayers, urged Muslims and Christians to be more tolerant with one another irrespective of their religious, political or ethnic affinity.

Some of the Muslim faithful who include Anwuli Sarki Anwuli, Muhammad, also called on Muslims and Christians to continue pray for peace and make their conduct the reason for people to worship God.

Generally, they appreciated the cooperation, collaboration and the peace and harmony they are enjoying in the State and reassured their support and loyalty to Governor Alex Otti and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administrations.

The congregational prayers were led by the Chief Imam of Umuahia Central mosque, Sheikh Aminu Lawal, while the eid prayers climaxed with the slaughtering of ram.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police, DSS, and other paramilitary organisations were on the ground to ensure a hitch-free prayer.

Eid-El –Kabir, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice is the most important feast in the Muslim calendar to celebrate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismaili, in submission to Allah’s command.

The festival, which usually comes up on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the twelve month of Islamic calendar, is a day where Muslims across the world slaughter rams or any other accepted animal after the two Rakkah compulsory prayer, in order to emulate Prophet Ibrahim.
