1st Ohuhu 18KM Walkathon Sporting And Exercise Picnic Holds December 30th

Chief Andrew Ogbonna Chikwendu Foundation, AOCF with the support of the Ogwe-Ama Fitness Club has announced the maiden edition of the 1st Ohuhu 18Km Walkathon Sporting and Exercise Picnic slated to hold in Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North L.G.A, of Abia State on the 30th day of December, 2022.

The major goal of the Foundation registered and formally presented to the public in June, 2022 and which was also founded in honour of an accomplished administrator, teacher, pharmacist, public officer and first republic politician, Chief Andrew Ogbonna Chikwendu of blessed memory, was to empower people and Communities, with emphasis on supporting programmes and projects that will enhance social and gender inclusion in education, business, society and culture in rural and semi-urban communities across Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen in Umuahia on behalf of Mr. Azubuike Chikwendu, the President of the Foundation, Barr. Kingston Chikwendu, a trustee of the Foundation who described the theme of the Exercise “Our Lives, Our Community” as unique, disclosed that the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji will officially flag off the event as “Chief Walker”.

He said the event was patterned after other global sporting events like the Lagos marathon, the Obudu mountain race, the Boston walk and among other World class internationally benchmark events.

Throwing more light, Barr. Chikwendu said “the event we are announcing today is an expression of the AO Foundation’s ideals of inclusiveness and the improvement of the lives of the members of its immediate focus Community and Ogwe-Ama Fitness Club’s goal of sports and exercise as gateway to a healthy life amongst its members”.

According to him, the event was also designed to showcase the creativeness and Innovation which in the past brought renown and prestige to Ohuhu people, adding, “This event is planned to become a permanent fixture in the annual calendar of Sporting fiesta in Abia State globally. Hence, the event would be formally registered with the relevant Abia State and Federal Government sporting authorities and subsequently to be organized and delivered annually with their support and collaboration”.

Barr. Chikwendu clearly pointed out that the Foundation is nonpartisan and the event which also has cash prize and other gifts attached would involve participants of all ages and an exercise picnic incorporating light physical fitness routine, health check, music, fun and food.

Lending his voice, a sports analyst and member of Ogwe-Ama Fitness Club, Mr. Ejikeme Ikwunze expressed the preparedness of the Club to see to the success of the event
